We’re so happy that we were able to make so many brand new pieces for the East Austin Studio Tour this year! From squiggle shelf peg boards to danish cord dining chairs and sculptural creature cabinets, we had a lot of fun crafting and creating unique pieces. If you didn’t make it out today, we’ll be set up tomorrow (Sunday 11.17) from 12-6pm.
— Walk-in pantry made of exposed edge baltic birch plywood with a clear finish —
I am SO pleased with how we were able to make use of every part of this small space. In addition to providing lots of extra storage, the client requested that the pantry also be an area for additional kitchen appliances to be stored and used - thus the reason for the counter.
The curved corners look cool, but also make those little corner spaces WAY easier to use compared to two separate cabinets butted up to each other. Hopefully we get to do something like this again!
Here is a really cool piece we made earlier this year for even cooler clients! They came to us with a very clear concept of what they wanted - and through a process of close collaboration and more than a few sketches and emails, I think the final result turned out better than any of us even imagined it would.
Also - that very cool/unique wall texture you see is there bc this is one of the original 3d printed @icon3dtech houses. They were printing a new one right down the street when we delivered which was super cool to see. #thefutureishere
Wall Credenza - featuring : solid walnut cabinet, hand laid solid wood walnut veneer sliding doors, drawers with custom / dynamic dividers to accommodate specific photography equipment and gear.
Custom gift card display shelf at take heart showcasing some of the loveliest cards you will find .
Made of vertical grain yellow pine from East Texas (aka not your big box pine). This is the same material we used in everything else at take heart and I absolutely love it. Maybe some products of our own should be made of it in the future 🤔
The annual (East) Austin Studio Tour is coming up! Saturday Nov 16th and Sunday Nov 17th from 12-6pm we’ll be opening up our doors along with artists and craftspeople all over town. Come see some of our new work and say hello 👋
There will be lots of craftspeople under one roof with us at @splintergroupatx — check back here for a list of everyone soon!
Meet Alex - a talented woodworker, furniture designer, artist, and spiritual mystic. His approach to design, his work, and his life would best be described as monastic - with an attentional to detail, reverence for the material, and appreciation for the process that only comes with years of attention and practice - both in a physical and a spiritual sense.
Alex started at RHCD full time in 2023, but prior to that was a good friend and colleague, having arrived in Austin in 2018 to make his way as a furniture maker. His education and credentials include the intensive program at the center for furniture craftsmanship in Maine, a degree in architecture from the university of Nebraska, and a stint as a Franciscan Friar in training in NYC.
All of this combined makes Alex an invaluable part of the crew at RHCD, and someone I am very grateful to call a friend and colleague.

White oak , danish cord seats, bent lamination backrest and an @osmo_usa oil/wax finish.
Here is a simple but lovely little kitchen in a Hyde Park ADU. The whole interior of the house is shiplap, so it made a lot of sense with this one to go with very simple slab fronts. We also made an adjustable height kitchen table / island!
Meet Ryan - a very skilled woodworker, equally talented musician, and possibly the biggest perfectionist I know (in the best way). @ryan.sid.brewer has been working with us since 2022 and is a crucial part of the shop team - managing and making projects with meticulous detail and precision from start to finish. If you’ve had work done by us in the past two years, it is guaranteed that Ryan has played a key role in the process. When he isn’t at work, you can catch him playing with @bruceisforlovers , @otis_wilkins , @gnagm_ , and in his solo project - @sunguilt ,at all your favorite venues around town, or maybe just peacefully burning incense and enjoying being present in the moment. Whatever it may be - we love this guy and really appreciate him being a part of the crew ✌️🤠
Here is a project for a client’s studio | office in the back of their home. They gave us some basic parameters for the necessary function and scale, but aside from that, allowed pretty much free rein creatively. It was a great opportunity to experiment a little more with this walnut | maple combo, and particularly the edge | face combo we like to call the ice cream sandwich. We made everything in-house, including the knobs (which are one of my favorite little details). I think this is going to be a really lovely space to enjoy for a long time, and here’s hoping it contributes to many creative and happy hours spent with a paint brush.
2nd Floor bedroom featuring three fixtures we made : a built-in headboard w/ shelving above, a 10 ft. Daybed w/ custom cushion to be installed, and a ladder leading up to a very special loft space. All in walnut w/ a clear finish.
