This set of tables was commissioned by the client as a gift and offering for her meditation teachers. The goal was to created a table that can adjust between two heights, for sitting in a chair or on the floor, has a top that can be tilted up to support a book for reading while instructing, and also can be packed away in a tidy manner making it easy to transport. Also, all these features needed to be incorporated in a design that was simple, elegant, and in keeping with the vibe of meditation sessions. The lotus flower and diamond inlays were designed by the client, and have deep personal meaning both for her and for her instructors. This project exemplifies perfectly the convergence of form, function, and personal narrative that can only be achieved through close communication between client and maker to create a custom piece.
